From 3 August 2024 all new Victorian certificates of title from the Register of land will be electronic.
Electronic certificates of title (eCTs) were introduced in Victoria in 2009, and the phasing out of paper certificates is the next step for Land Use Victoria’s continuing journey to streamline and modernise the state’s land administration.
What does this change mean for you and your clients?
- land and property owners do not need to do anything
- going forward, the Registrar of Titles will hold control of the eCTs, however on application certain subscribers to the electronic lodgement platform can request control of an eCT or transfer control to the Registrar.
- existing paper certificates of title will remain valid until they are next required for a conveyancing transaction.
You can find more information on the Land Use Victoria website which has been updated to provide information on phasing out paper certificates of title and answer common questions.
